Manhole Cover Cork Trivet-Columbus, Ohio
Manhole Cover Cork Trivet-Columbus, Ohio
The biggest small town in America, Columbus is Ohio’s state capital and the second most populated city in the midwest. Named after the eponymous explorer, who has no relation to the city, Columbus was founded in 1812. This steam cover hails from 1932 and can be found at Broad and Front streets. Its attractive radial pattern begins with a six-pointed star at its center and blooms with a 16-sided petal motif. Concentric grooves surround the core. A sans serif tapered typeface similar to Bank Gothic wraps around the edge. 17 added stars recall the 13 + 4 stars on the state flag; Ohio being the 17th state admitted to the Union in 1803. The hexagonal bolts have turned to circles here to recall the Buckeye motif. These covers are disappearing as the city seal covers have taken over the downtown. Preserve it while you can!
The perfect gift for housewarmings, and anniversaries each illustration is initially hand-drawn for precision and then permanently etched into cork. The trivets are .375" thick and 7.25" in diameter with rounded edges. The engraving method has incredible detail and tactility. Fabricated from sustainable Portuguese cork. Designed and packaged in Philadelphia, PA USA.
Cork is a natural material, thus rare aberrations within the etching can occur.
