The Netherlands has more tall people than anywhere in the world and more pigs than citizens. The consumption of which may be a corollary. Those pigs mingle with cows in the reclaimed landscape or polders, which is always threatening to flood as it disastrously did in 1953. Windmills dot this landscape which were designed to help pump out the dijks cut into the settling soil. Much of the nation is under sea level including the four cities in this set: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Groningen. The covers all share a grid, which makes sense given the Dutch affinity for it as evidenced in their uniquely progressive architecture, De Stijl painting, graphic design and typography.
