Manhole Cover Cork Trivet-KYIV/КИЇВ

$25.00

This cover features four sunflowers around a capital K. КИЇВ was named after the founder of the city, Kyi, along the Dneiper river over 1500 years ago. That was a time before Ukraine or Russia were nations. During that timespan the city was in the hands of the Slavic nomadic Khazar tribes, the Varangians, the Lithuanians, the Poles, the Russians and the Soviets until independence in 1991. The Mongols and the Nazis wreaked havoc on the city 700 years apart from one another. Stalin starved the region in the 1930’s and the native population committed ethnic cleansing during World War II. Historically, it’s had a rough go. Even as a democratic Republic, the Russians controlled the government for decades until 2014, but maintains control of the Crimea and two eastern provinces. And now, in 2022, Russia is at it again with Kiev facing an unknown future. Will the rest of the world watch as the maniacal leader of a Kleptocracy attempts to violently wrest control of the sovereign nation of Ukraine? Hopefully, Kiev and the rest of the nation will return to a peaceful land of sunflowers and blue sky. Слава Україні!
