Manhole Cover Cork Trivet-Cleveland

$25.00

Incorporated in 1836, Cleveland was named after its founder, Moses. General Moses Cleveland, Surveyor, that is. Sitting on the southern shore of Lake Erie where the Cuyahoga river snakes in from the south. That river winds through much industry and has been a victim of the Anthropocene, having caught fire numerous times costing the city millions of dollars. The city became synonymous with environmental disaster but after 1969’s conflagration Cleveland vowed to set its path in a greener direction. That process is still manifesting, but with the construction of the I.M. Pei’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, people finally had something else to talk about-even if it is Pei’s worst building. Even so, the Cuyahoga river appears on this cover design, lest we forget. The Madison Foundry Company, founded in 1893 was acquired by EJ in 1968. The foundry was located at 935 Addison Road, a rust-belted area, with some of its products still visible on the street. Visit today!

The perfect gift for housewarmings, and anniversaries each illustration is initially hand-drawn for precision and then permanently etched into cork. The trivets are .375" thick and 7.25" in diameter with rounded edges. The engraving method has incredible detail and tactility. Fabricated from sustainable Portuguese cork. Designed and packaged in Philadelphia, PA USA.
Cork is a natural material, thus rare aberrations within the etching can occur.
