Manhole Cover Magnets: Baltimore

$20.00

While the city of Baltimore was founded in 1729, it did not get its current moniker charm city, until the mid-1970s. The 1970s were lean times for us cities as the federal government heavily disinvested in nearly all urban areas, white flight was reaching its pinnacle, manufacturing was finding cheaper labor in the midwest and abroad and the effects of redlining did not allow loans to reinvest in many inner-city neighborhoods. An ad campaign aimed at bringing tourists to five different city attractions showcased a charm bracelet for each one. The campaign failed, but the nickname stuck. Savor these four charming covers from the water department, County storm drain, Baltimore city passenger railway and Baltimore sewer commission.
