EACH MANHOLE COVER IS DOCUMENTED ON-SITE WITH RUBBINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHY, THEN HAND-DRAWN (SOMETIMES PAINSTAKINGLY!) AND TRANSFERRED TO A DIGITAL FILE FOR PRECISION, PROPORTION AND TO MATCH TYPEFACES. FOUNDRIES AND SITES ARE RESEARCHED AND DOCUMENTED. AN ETCHING FILE IS THEN GENERATED TO SCALE WHICH IS THEN BROUGHT TO AN EXTRAORDINARY LASER ENGRAVER. THE ENGRAVER BURNS THE IMAGE permanently INTO THE SUBSTRATE CREATING DEPTH AND TACTILITY. THE PRODUCTS ARE THEN INSPECTED, PACKAGED WITH UP-CYCLED CARDBOARD, GIVEN UNIQUE LABELS AND THEN BANDED. THE BAND, IN THEORY, CAN BE REUSED WHILE THE PACKAGING CAN BE RECYCLED. every purchase is made to order.
